SERVICES
My work, which I refer to as "Wellness Fusion Massage," integrates a unique blend of techniques and modalities for each session, in a mindful, respectful manner, according to the client's needs and wishes. Some sessions may be limited by the availability of materials at a particular location. These services are included in the session fee, to the extent that there is time to incorporate them into a particular session. My overall philosophy is that each session has its own energy flow - and unfolds in its own directions. Often, an areas of deep pain and blockage will be uncovered which the client did not anticipate. In my experience, clients strongly prefer to follow the natural progression of a session as it addresses their healing needs. These sessions are empowering, intuitive, empathic and interactive.
If
you have a strong interest in a particular service, please email me or
call ahead to be sure that it is available at the location at which your
session will take place. Some services are available only at my home-studio.
If
you would like a full-body massage combined with specific work on a problem
area and/or empathic energy work, a 90 minute session is recommended.
Otherwise, it would be necessary to leave out major aspects of the full-body
massage in order to have adequate time to address your problem areas.
Sessions of two hours or more are helpful in addressing stubborn issues,
or where more in-depth body-mind-spirit work is sought.
For those who would like more specific information on techniques and modalities:
Two of the key concepts in Wellness Fusion Massage are mindfulness and transparency. You may not spend hours thinking about massage techniques and modalities and how to describe them, but, as a professional, I do. This effort leads me to leap into a paradox, of course. Massage is so simple. It is an ancient art with modern science. And yet, there are so many options and nuances, so many different techniques and modalities. People have very different life experiences. Many of us are unaware of our bodies and even our feelings. With Wellness Fusion Massage, you may choose to ask questions during the session. You may choose, at times, to turn off your intellect and simply experience the treatment. There is no "right" or "wrong" about this. Many clients have visions and other sensations they can not explain. I only ask that you allow me to be your guide in this fascinating process and that you let me know if you are uncomfortable about anything. I am trained to keep you safe.
*Breath Work is an important component of all of my healing work. Through the breath, the parasympathetic nervous system is stimilated, creating a "relaxation response" and easing us out of the stresses and fears of our daily lives. When we breathe deeply from the abdomen (belly) rather than shallow breaths from the upper chest, there is a profound shift, which contributes to the release of muscle tension and pain as well as improvements in attitude and mood. I have been studying breath work in the ancient Himalayan tradition with Pandit Jerome Smith of the Himalayan Institute.
**Emotional Release happens at times during sessions, when a client is simply ready to deal with feelings such as sadness, grief, loss, etc. It is normal, and healthy, for individuals to experience a range of sensations or emotions during massage.
I do not conduct psychotherapy, nor do I ever attempt to force a client to experience specific emotions, but I am trained to respond appropriately to emotional releases. I will respect your feelings and experiences and do my best to ensure your complete safety and comfort. My stated intentions for all of my sessions include facilitating your highest interests and not opening traumas which can not be safely contained within the session. I will be happy to recommend a therapist for any client who is interested in referral to a licensed psychotherapy practitioner. For futher discussion of these issues, please click "Healing Intentions and Safety."
A. Reiki is an ancient healing art that has been passed down through traditional Usui lineages. My own training is in the Raku tradition, into which I was initiated by Billie Topa Tate, one of my spiritual teachers and founder of the Mystical Sciences Institute. Although I am a certified Reiki Master, my studies continue. The experience of this form of energy work can be profound, although it is performed through lightly touching the body - or without actual touch.
B. Kabbalistic Healing is an ancient healing art from mystical Jewish teachings. I have studied with Rabbi Dr. Douglas Goldhammer, who regularly performs Kabbalistic healings at his congregation and for other individuals, empowered by ancient healing meditations that are used to bring the healer to a deep state of sacred prayer.
C. TDP Lampis an FDA-Approved source of thermal (heat) therapy. Used in a massage treatment, the lamp can help relax muscles and reduce pain without the inconvenience associated with conventional wet hot packs which need to be boiled in water and then wrapped in towels. Clients experience the lamp as generating a gentle heat that penetrates more deeply into muscles and joints, rather than the surface skin. It is also referred to as a Far-Infrared Mineral (FIM) Lamp and is commonly used in Chiropractic and Traditional Chinese Medicine practices. TDP Lamp treatments are generally included in your session free of charge.
D. Hot Stone Massage may be used to warm up your tissue prior to regular massage work. However, combined with energy work, relaxation and/or guided imagery, it can encompass an entire session. For a brief treatment, a limited number of stones are heated in water and then placed on the client's back, on top of a towel, until they are cool enough to be placed directly on your skin. Stones may also be used to massage your skin directly. They may be used on your abdomen and chest, hands, feet and legs. There are small stones that can be placed in-between your fingers and toes. If you would like both hot stones and a full body massage, it is recommended that you schedule at least a 90 minute session. Hot stones are only available at my home-studio, and must be reserved in advance so that they can be heated before you arrive.
E. Tui-Na for the Neck, Head and Shoulder. Tui-Na is the massage component of traditional Chinese healing. I was taught a Tui-Na method of relieving pain in the neck and shoulder, as well as headache, by Master Tim Wong. It is mostly performed with the client seated on the table and involves deep work in the shoulders, neck and arms. (Female clients should wear a strapless top or bra during the seated portion of the Tui-Na.) Depending upon the individual's situation, the seated part of the massage session may take 20-30 minutes.
F. Sound Healing. This involves the use of sound in the healing process, always at your comfort level. It may be as simple as your bringing in a music CD you would like to have for the background of your massage session. It may include your vocalizing deep feelings/energies you experience, the use of tuning forks to create new resonances, the use of Tibetan singing bowls to remove obstacles and empower you through times of transition, the use of a drumming CD or an actual drum to help bring you to a shamanic vision or to connect with the energy of your ancestors. If you would like to experience a shamanic smudging practice (burning of sage leaves) or sweet grass, these will be available only at my home-based practice.
G. Naturopathica's Lemon Verbena Body Polish Treatment. This exfoliative cream treatment will leave the skin silky and soft. It is ideal for sensitive skin. The client is covered with a bath towel, to allow the body to be treated with long, connecting strokes on the left side of the body and the right side of the body. First, a lavender hydrolat is applied to moisten the skin, followed by the Lemon Verbena Body Polish. After the body polish application, the client is directed to the shower, where s/he gently rinses off the body polish and returns for a 60 minute massage using Arnica or Lavender oil or the usual massage cream. These highest quality natural spa products and treatment techniques were developed, and taught to me, by Naturopathica through the Chicago School of Massage Therapy.
H. Aromatherapy. For your massage session, you may choose between Biotone's Dual Purpose Massage Cream, which is very relaxing and contains both Arnica and Ivy for healing and rejeuvenation, or two different aromatherapy massage oils from Naturopathica:
Arnica Muscle & Joint Bath and Body Oil - includes:
French
Lavender Soothing Bath and Body Oil - includes:
Massage techniques include the following (Feel free to request demonstrations!):smooth gliding strokes; various compressions; lifting and kneading; frictioning (transverse, longitudinal and circular); myofascial gliding, twists and skin rolling; rocking and shaking; deep muscle stripping; pulling, stretching and tractioning; percussion, from feathering to pounding; trigger point (ischemic compression); and
variations and combinations of the above.
"My
promise is to do my best to enhance
your
sense of well-being, to alleviate your
discomfort,
to help facilitate a meaningful
healing
process, in a manner that is safe,
respectful
and comfortable for you".
Please phone or email me to schedule your appointment, ask any general questions about massage, or ask specifically about my work or perspectives.
